Golf scramble pairing sheet (shotgun starting holes)
A scramble pairing sheet is the one-page list that starters and registration desks actually use. One row per team. Sorted by starting hole. When the field doubles up, you mark A and B so two groups can share a tee.
Print it once. Hand copies to registration, the starter, and anyone running carts. Optional cart signs can mirror the same group numbers.
Build fair teams first with the free scramble team generator, then drop those rosters onto this sheet. Scrambled Eggs on iOS can take the scoring from there once teams are on the course.
What a scramble pairing sheet needs
Keep it scramble-specific. You do not need stroke-play tee times. You need who starts where, and how they move.
Typical columns:
| Group # | Players | Cart #s | Start hole | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 12 | Alex Kim, Sam Lee, Jordan Ng, Riley Chen | 12, 13 | 7 | |
| 13 | Pat Morgan, Casey Brooks, Avery Quinn, Morgan Ellis | 14 | 7B | VIP sponsor |
Sort every row by starting hole, then by A then B when you double a tee. Leave Notes blank unless you need a flag.
Column checklist
- Group # so the starter can call teams in order.
- Player names (full names help at check-in).
- Cart #s if you assign carts in advance.
- Starting hole with A or B when two groups share a tee.
- Notes for sponsors, VIP flags, or special requests.
Optional: team name, handicap totals, or captain phone. Keep those off the starter copy if it clutters the page.
How to build and print the sheet
- Confirm field size and whether you will use a single shotgun or A/B doubles. See how a shotgun start scramble works.
- Build teams (ABCD or skill-based). Use the scramble team generator. Need fun labels? Try the golf team name generator. More on fairness: how to make fair scramble teams.
- Assign starting holes. Sort the sheet by hole number. Put A before B when a tee is doubled.
- Add cart numbers if carts are pre-assigned.
- Print for registration and the starter. Keep a spare at the clubhouse.
- Optional: print small cart signs with group # and starting hole.
Placement tips that keep the field moving
- Avoid doubling par 3s when you can. Short tees get crowded fast.
- Prefer A/B doubles on par 4s and par 5s.
- Put sponsors and VIPs on 1 and 10 if you want them near the clubhouse photo and welcome.
- Put faster groups just after the turn when you can. That clears bottlenecks before they stack.
- Leave a blank row or two for late adds and walk-ups.
Run check-in straight off this sheet. The scramble registration and check-in checklist shows how.
What goes on a scramble pairing sheet?
Group number, player names, cart numbers (if used), and starting hole. Add A or B when two teams share a tee. Notes for VIPs or sponsors are optional. Sort by hole so the starter can work top to bottom.
What is 10A vs 10B?
When two groups start on the same hole, label them 10A and 10B (or Hole 10 A / Hole 10 B). They tee in sequence from that hole, then play as normal. A/B is how you grow capacity past one group per hole without a second wave. Your pairing sheet should show that label clearly so registration and the starter say the same thing.
